How to Apply
Our hiring process is designed to be respectful of your time while ensuring we find the best fit for both you and the team.
What We Look For
- Mission Alignment: You care about democracy, governance, and civic tech — not just the salary.
- Ownership Mindset: You treat the platform like your own product and take initiative without waiting for permission.
- Data-Driven: You make decisions based on evidence, user feedback, and metrics — not assumptions.
- Collaborative: You communicate clearly, give constructive feedback, and thrive in cross-functional teams.
- Adaptable: You are comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change. We pivot fast based on user needs.
Our Culture
We are a small, high-trust team that ships fast and debates openly. Here is what you can expect:
- No Hierarchy Theatre: Everyone has a voice. Our CEO writes code. Our interns present to the board.
- Radical Transparency: Revenue, user numbers, and roadmap priorities are shared with the entire team every Monday.
- User Obsession: Every team member spends at least 2 hours per month talking to real users in their communities.
- Psychological Safety: Disagreement is encouraged. The best idea wins, regardless of who proposed it.
- Work-Life Boundaries: We do not glorify overwork. Sustainable pace produces better code and happier humans.
- Nigerian Pride: We build for Nigerians first. We celebrate local languages, cultures, and contexts in everything we do.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We run a 6-month internship program for final-year students and recent graduates in engineering, design, and operations. Interns work on real features, not coffee runs. Many of our full-time team members started as interns. Apply with "Internship" in the subject line.
Most roles are open to remote work within Nigeria. For positions outside Nigeria, we consider candidates in the African diaspora who have deep familiarity with Nigerian civic and political context. Time zone overlap with WAT (UTC+1) is required for at least 4 hours per day.
From application to offer, the process typically takes 2–3 weeks. We aim to respond to every application within 5 business days. If you have not heard back after 2 weeks, feel free to follow up. We respect your time and will never ghost you.
For Nigerian citizens and residents, no visa is needed. For non-Nigerians joining our Lagos hub, we provide full work permit sponsorship and relocation support for senior roles (Head of Department and above).
Yes, but please apply separately for each role with a tailored cover letter explaining why you are a fit for that specific position. If we think you are better suited for a different open role, we will let you know and redirect your application.
Tell us: (1) Why I DEY VOTE specifically — what about our mission excites you? (2) One specific problem you would solve or feature you would build in your first 90 days. (3) A project you are proud of and what you learned from it. Keep it under 300 words. We read every single one.
Ready to Build Democracy?
We are growing fast, and we need people who care as much as we do. If that is you, we cannot wait to meet you.
